It is our primary goal to preserve your natural teeth whenever possible. Root canal treatment may become necessary when the pulp tissue inside the root canals of a tooth becomes damaged, or the pulp tissue becomes inflamed through dental trauma or decay.
When root canal therapy is performed, the crown of the tooth is opened, allowing the doctor to access the root canal(s) and remove any infected or inflamed pulp from the tooth's chamber. The inside of the tooth is then cleaned and disinfected before being filled and sealed to limit the possibility of future infection. Soon after the root canal is performed, the tooth is restored with a dental crown or filling to protect the tooth and restore normal tooth function.
